vegan MoFo 6: Multi-grain Zongzi

IMG_3237These are the best! Hedy’s originally from Taiwan. She has a stall of her homemade vegan goods at the farmers market called, ‘Lan Yo Veggie Village.’

IMG_3239Multi-grain rice, spelt, wheat berries & sticky rice.

IMG_3240My favorite part is the cube of taro root. Chickpeas and marinated shiitake. There is one other stringy fungus in it, that makes it all the better.

    I’ve never had Zongzi but this one looks good! I like the combination of all the different grains.

      Hedy makes a sticky rice one as well but I always gravitate to the density, chew and grounding sensation the mixed grains gives me 🙂

  2. I love the look of these. Taro is something I like a lot when I go out but I’ve never bought one myself. Should change that!

      Do it! Taro rocks. The creamy flesh and purple veins are so pretty. I wish it was something I could grow but it likes marshlands and I live in a desert… also the only thing I’ve managed to keep alive is a aloe vera plant, which apparently really likes falling off the roof of a car and being run over, scorching by a sunny window sill and general neglect. Despite all of this my little Cthulhu is still thriving!
